Hand in Hand features two identical compasses placed on opposite ends of a rotating platform, always pointing to each other. As navigational instruments that once aligned with the Earth’s magnetic field, their needles have been manipulated to converge, counteracting the principles of physics.

By defying its traditional function, this set of compasses is instead given a singular, renewed purpose: to guide and bring two individuals together. Perhaps, through such an ulterior notion of way-finding, viewers are prompted to reflect upon the possibility of love as a predestined fate.

Presented at SupperHouse as part of We keep going around in circles and we never know why until we break them all (2023), curated by Ashley Chiam.
