Immovable
2017
Canvas shoes, textured paint
on wood and foam
28.5 x 22.5 x 215 cm
Immovable consists of a pair of shoes with a towering sculptural sole. Constructed out of stacked wood and foam, concealed with putty and a brutalist cement finish, the shoe stands monolithically upright and renders it impossible to walk in them.
This design aims to entrap and interrupt the ease with which we move, offering a slower experience of time and the ‘self’ in a society fixated on speed and progression. Only signifying its own failure, the shoes function as a symbolic sculpture that encourages reconsideration on the pace of our modern lifestyle.
