No Sign of a Sign

2022
8 Handcrafted mixed media signs
Dimensions variable

No Sign of a Sign is a clustered installation of various free-standing, ceiling-hung, and wall-mounted signs. As structures omnipresent within our local public spaces, each was abstracted through a make-shift sculptural language and improvised in its material construction.

By decontextualising them from their familiar setting, the role and function of signages as provisional of simple answers or guiding information for people has been further subverted to become completely blank – null. Failing to communicate anything now, what would you do in the face of this directionless world, and where would you go?

Presented at LASALLE’s Winstedt Campus as part of My Hands on My Seat (2022); and SupperHouse as part of There Are Flowers In The Morning Mist (2023), curated by Ashley Chiam.
