Under Pressure

2021
Light stand, swivel bracket,
serviette, portable fan
Dimensions variable

Under Pressure comprises a small standing fan that blows a piece of serviette against the wall. Simply held in place by the constant supply of electronically generated wind, the overtly mundane object becomes animated in a ballet of utter precariousness.

The balancing act, verging on the apprehension of imminent collapse by gravity, generates a tension which nudges viewers to double-take and, on closer inspection, recognise a range of very human notions through its awkard, vulnerable, and temporary state of presentation.

Presented at Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore as part of The LASALLE Show (2022), curated by Jeremy Sharma; and Mr Lim’s Shop of Visual Treasures as part of Fools (2023).
