Under the Radar

Under the Radar documents my effort at getting past a power-saving motion-sensor light, undetected. At its dimmed setting, I creep out and forward from the fire exit corridor, ever so slowly not to trigger its activation.

Knees bent and eyes glaze over in full concentration, the small incremental movement – nearly imperceptible – is a result of my subservience to the automated lighting system, akin to a marionette.

This work is part of an ongoing series of instruction-based body-camera experiments at self-effacement, loosely exploring the philosophical question "if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

Presented at Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore as part of The LASALLE Show (2022), curated by Jeremy Sharma.
